The Last of Us Season 2: Story, Cast, and Release Schedule

HBO has once again captured the attention of TV fans everywhere. After the cultural phenomenon that was The White Lotus Season 3, the network jumps straight into the much-anticipated second season of The Last of Us. When the first season premiered in 2023, it quickly became one of the most talked-about series of the year, and Season 2 looks set to follow in its footsteps.

What Happens in The Last of Us Season 2?

Season 2 picks up in the immediate aftermath of Joel’s decision to save Ellie by eliminating the Fireflies who planned to use her for a cure. Among those lost was the doctor meant to perform the procedure — a man whose daughter, Abby, played by Kaitlyn Dever, now seeks revenge. After a brief glimpse into this aftermath, the story jumps five years ahead.

Now living in Jackson, Wyoming, Joel and Ellie have settled into a guarded community, though life is far from perfect. Joel is seeing a therapist, played by Catherine O’Hara, while Ellie finds new friendships with characters played by Isabela Merced and Young Mazino. The Cordyceps-infected remain a constant threat, but the community has created systems to keep them at bay.

A Focus on Personal Struggles

The early episodes of the new season focus more on the personal and emotional challenges faced by the characters. Ellie is navigating her relationships with peers, while Joel grapples with his increasingly strained bond with Ellie. As the season progresses, tension builds. The infected remain a lurking danger, but the real threat comes from Abby and those seeking revenge for Joel’s past actions.

This growing unease and the series’ signature character development promise to make Season 2 another gripping chapter in the post-apocalyptic saga.

When Are New Episodes Released?

New episodes of The Last of Us Season 2 air on Sky Atlantic and Now TV at 2am on Monday mornings. The next episode is scheduled for release on Monday, 14 April.

How Many Episodes Are in Season 2?

Season 2 will feature a total of seven episodes, making it a slightly shorter run than the first season’s nine. With the first episode already streaming, there are six more episodes of drama and danger to look forward to.
