The Day of the Jackal Season 2: Everything We Know So Far

Following the gripping conclusion of Sky Atlantic’s thriller The Day of the Jackal, fans eagerly await the second season. The series, starring Eddie Redmayne as the enigmatic assassin known as the Jackal, kept audiences engaged with its intense narrative and complex characters.

Release Date

Sky Atlantic has not yet announced a release date for Season 2. Since filming has not begun, new episodes may not arrive until at least 2026. Fans should stay tuned for production updates.

Cast

Spoiler Alert: The following contains spoilers from Season 1.

Eddie Redmayne will return as the Jackal in the upcoming season. In a recent statement, Redmayne shared his enthusiasm about continuing the story, emphasizing the character’s aversion to unresolved matters.

Lashana Lynch’s character, Bianca, did not survive Season 1, so a new MI6 operative may take over the hunt for the Jackal. Úrsula Corberó is expected to reprise her role as Nuria, the Jackal’s estranged wife. Charles Dance and Eleanor Matsuura will likely return as well, portraying financier Timothy Winthrop and businesswoman Zina Jansone, respectively.

Plot

Although official plot details remain unknown, the events of Season 1 suggest several potential storylines. The Jackal escaped after a deadly confrontation with Bianca and now seeks his wife, Nuria, who disappeared with their son and a significant sum of his earnings. This personal mission may drive the narrative in Season 2.

Meanwhile, tensions between the Jackal and Timothy Winthrop have escalated. After failing to pay the assassin and attempting to eliminate him, Winthrop now faces a dangerous situation. Zina Jansone’s proposal to have him killed adds another layer of intrigue, hinting at shifting alliances and new threats for the Jackal.

Trailer

Since production has not started, a trailer for Season 2 will likely take time to arrive. Fans will need patience as they wait for the first look at the next chapter.

Prospects for Season 3

A third season remains uncertain. Executive producer Gareth Neame has expressed interest in continuing the series but wants to avoid overstaying its welcome. For now, the focus remains on delivering a strong second season.
